This piece questions what we mean when we tell someone to "hold hope." Too often, hope becomes another way of asking people to comply quietly and wait for a system to fix them, rather than addressing why they're struggling in the first place. It argues for a different kind of hope: active, uncomfortable, built through autonomy and accountability rather than obedience. Justice, growth and learning isn't achieved by believing things happen for a reason, but rather in handing back the right to choose, including the right to get it wrong.
