The Shared Experience

Healing happens in the places people exist day-to-day, not just in wards and clinics. We build environments where people can connect and discuss mental health on their own term.

Step Into The Space

We do not assume what a community needs; we create the spaces for them to speak. From lived experience documentaries to grassroots drop-in spaces, our work amplifies the perspectives that are too often ignored.

Authentic Connection

Genuine healing happens in spaces that we frequent daily - the people, the places, the mundane parts of existing. We construct spaces rooted in shared understanding, a belief that we are always better in partnership, and mutual respect. The authentic grassroots nature of Integrity Initiative keeps us grounded in real, practical human needs and our team’s Lived Experience ensures we are not just building community, we are part of it.

How We Build Community

Eliminating the barrier to entry

Starting conversations about mental health - let alone navigating them and accessing support - is hard enough. Whether you've worked in a designated lived experience role, been a consumer rep, had your own lived experience or just want to learn more about mental health, we have ways for everyone to engage.

Inclusive Focus

We actively centre the individuals and voices who are most often excluded from mainstream mental health conversations.

Creativity and innovation

Creativity is not just arts and crafts, it's expression, communication and innovation. All of our events are underpinned by this belief, and endeavour to hold space for creative learning that gently nudges normalities.

Accessiblity first and foremost

Many of our team members' experiences of navigating the world with disability mean that we understand the challenges of doing so. Our community events and spaces prioritise access - from event accessibility guides, dedicated Peer support, sensory regulation tools and beyond, we believe that accessibility benefits all and should be seen as necessary, not nice-to-have.

Organic Connection

We create the exact conditions necessary for genuine connection without ever forcing or manufacturing it

Better together, always

Whilst centring Lived Experience, we believe that systems can only change when we all work together as a collective, in partnership rather than pitted against one another. We work closely with all forms of community, clinical care, services, policy and beyond. We do not see 'us' versus 'them', but instead the importance of 'together'.

Recognition of Lived Experience

The Consumer/Survivor Movement calls for human rights, recognition, and justice for people with lived experience of mental health challenges, psychiatric treatment, and systemic coercion. Integrity Initiative’s work builds on this legacy. It is iterative, and shaped by the advocacy of those who came before us, across this and many intersecting movements

We acknowledge those who fought for a voice, those still navigating oppressive systems, those resisting in ways unseen, and those yet to come. We carry this work forward with a commitment to not only hope for a better future, but to actively challenge the conditions that have caused harm.

Acknowledgement of country

Integrity Initiative acknowledges the traditional custodians of the Boodjar on which we work, the Whadjuk Noongar people. We pay respect to Elders past and present, and extend our appreciation for their custodianship of so-called Australia. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
