What to expect:

Come along and get creative with Rachael (Integrity Initiative CEO and Founder) and Jasmin (Integrity Initiative team member). We will guide you through zine-making, the history of storytelling, the Lived Experience (Peer) workforce, and creative advocacy. Explore what Lived Experience means to you and create your very own pocket-zine that will go on to tell your story throughout regional Western Australia as a part of Maeson’s Soapbox and through Integrity Initiative programs.

About Word Travels:

Word Travels is a creative, reflective and Peer-led workshop created by Integrity Initiative and Maeson’s Soapbox to help people explore what Lived Experience means to them, and how to take conscious care whilst sharing their stories, and the importance of storytelling as a form of advocacy.

Word Travels is designed to provide an entry-level exploration of Peer concepts that introduces advocacy as not just systemic, but also individual, personal and deeply human. It provides an opportunity to practice stepping into discomfort with conscious care.

Participants will leave with:

  • Ability to translate Lived Experience into Expertise that can be used in future advocacy

  • A zine (or meaningful draft) that belongs to them, that can be shared publicly through Integrity Initiative and Maesons Soapbox.

Recognition of Lived Experience

The Consumer/Survivor Movement calls for human rights, recognition, and justice for people with lived experience of mental health challenges, psychiatric treatment, and systemic coercion. Integrity Initiative’s work builds on this legacy. It is iterative, and shaped by the advocacy of those who came before us, across this and many intersecting movements

We acknowledge those who fought for a voice, those still navigating oppressive systems, those resisting in ways unseen, and those yet to come. We carry this work forward with a commitment to not only hope for a better future, but to actively challenge the conditions that have caused harm.

Acknowledgement of country

Integrity Initiative acknowledges the traditional custodians of the Boodjar on which we work, the Whadjuk Noongar people. We pay respect to Elders past and present, and extend our appreciation for their custodianship of so-called Australia. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
